At it's heart, Storyline wants to help people find their place in God's story. We are particularly passionate about our neighbors who are disconnected (both from God and from community) and who are downtrodden (the poor, the refugee, the addicted and abused). We also have a vision of being an equipping and sending church. We want to raise up disciples of Jesus who are equipped to make other disciples, to plant missional communities among their neighborhoods and networks, and to start new churches nationally and internationally.

Storyline is a network of missional communities. That means the heartbeat of our church happens in our spiritual families who share a particular mission together. Our spiritual families (missional communities) tend to be groups of 20-30 people. Storyline is networked by shared leadership, resources, training, prayer, and worship gatherings.

About the Mentors

Charles & Julie Kiser

Charles Kiser has been Julie’s husband since 2001. He and Julie have three kids: Ryan, Chloe, and Charlotte. They live in Richardson, Texas, and help lead a Missional Community there that hangs out regularly at a game night at a local bar. Charles helped to start Storyline in partnership with Mission Alive in 2008 after an 18-month church planting apprenticeship in Dallas-Fort Worth. Before that he gained experience in a variety of congregational ministry contexts: urban, youth, involvement, preaching and small groups.

Charles focuses on three tasks in his ministry: 1) prayer – for and with Storyline; 2) presence – with disconnected or downtrodden friends and with fellow disciples and leaders; 3) proclamation – teaching, preaching, casting vision, sharing the big gospel of the kingdom of God.

Charles has an M.Div. from Harding School of Theology and is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Contextual Theology from Northern Seminary. He is also a certified Coach through Coachnet.

He's gone through training from Kairos Church Planting, Mission Alive, FORGE Canada, and 3DM, concerning church planting, discipleship, and missional communities. What Experiences Will Residents Have?

Residents will become part of a missional community and join it's rhythms. They will meet regularly with one of our church planters for coaching and debriefing. They'll be encouraged in personal spiritual practices of prayer, Scripture reading, and fasting. They will see the inner workings of leadership and organization at Storyline as a network, as well as misisonal community leadership. They will be invited into discipling cohorts. They'll learn and practice mission among their neighbors and co-workers.

Second year residents will be involved in launching new missional communities. They practice various degrees of leadership including teaching, preaching, and facilitation of discipleship groups. They'll learn to disciple others in the competencies they are building. They'll lead others in prayer initiatives and other forms of ministry.
