Apprentices

"I would like to give 15 months of my life to participate in a church planting as an apprentice."

In the early Christian church young evangelists became apprentices by walking beside experienced church planters. For example, John Mark accompanied Paul and Barnabas on the first missionary journey, and Timothy became an apprentice to Paul and Silas on the second. Paul, consequently, was able to write that "Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel" (Phil. 2:22). Paul and Timothy developed a kindred spirit, genuinely caring for the welfare of Christians.

Consider your need to take practical steps to Christian maturity through spiritual formation and practical ministry. Envision experiencing an urban environment by participating in a church planting as a bi-vocational minister. You would first learn how to connect with unbelievers and bring them into a saving relationship with Christ and then receive focused training in either inner-city or suburban church planting. After the initial period of training you would work with others to plant an inner-city apartment church or minister in a new suburban church plant to launch a cell group of new believers. You would not only learn how to minister among unbelievers but also be nurtured to grow in your relationship to God.

Many apprentices will live in Households of Faith, spiritual communities, focused on spiritual formation and practical ministry.

Perhaps you are an evangelist who desires to be a church planter in another city of the United States. You may already have your support or you may come to work bi-vocationally. In either case Mission Alive will work with you personally as we do with those planting churches in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We will provide discovery and church-planting labs and collaborative networking within a community of church planters. We are committed to working with you personally in equipping you for in evangelism and church planting.
